Senator Reid on Slavery and Socialized Medicine

This is another example of why we need men and women of integrity and principle to represent our best interests and the best interests of the country.

In his speech to pass government healthcare, Senator Harry attempted to rewrite history as to the Democratic and Republican party’s’ respective support of Emancipation, Women’s Suffrage, and Civil Rights. It was wrong for the leader of the Senate to lie to the American people for political gain. I hope the good citizens of Nevada take note. On these most important issues in our history the Republican Party has been on the right side of history and on protecting what works in our health insurance marketplace and fixing what is broken they are again.

Here is the actual history:

13th Amendment to Abolish Slavery

House Vote

86 – 0 100% Republicans

15 – 50 23% Democrats

14 – 0 100% Unconditional Union

4 – 6 40 % Union

Senate Vote

30 – 0 100% Republicans

4 – 5 44% Democrats

1- 0 100% Unconditional Union

The vast majority of the state legislatures that then ratified the 13th Amendment were Republican.

19th Amendment for Women’s Suffrage

304 – 89 The breakdown is unknown at this time but probably similar to the Senate vote below.

Senate Vote

20 – 17 54% Democrats

The majority of the state legislatures that then ratified the 19th Amendment were Republican.

Civil Rights Act of 1964

House Vote

136 – 35 80% Republicans

153 – 91 63% Democrats

Senate Vote

27 – 8 82% Republicans

46 – 21 69% Democrats

Pearl Harbor and Today

As I reflected two days ago on the events of Pearl Harbor, I was troubled in my thoughts on how today’s protectors of our families and friends are being treated today. There are three Navy Seals accused of ‘roughing up’ the terrorist responsible for the kidnapping, torture, killing and hanging of the charred and mangled corpses of 4 American contractors in Fallujah in 2004. The evidence presented is flimsy at best and rests on taking the terrorist’s word over the word of our men. How did we come to this?
